Saline filled implants are not very popular in the Czech Republic. Patients and surgeons do not use them too much and prefer rather silicone implants. Silicone implants are used here in 95%. Surgeons have great experience with them and emphasize their natural look. Only in 5% of cases saline filled implants are placed. From global point of view we can say that Europe and South America prefer the quality and advantages of mainly silicone implants.
Completely different situation is in the United States. There win on contrary mainly saline filled implants. The main reason is fear of possible cancerous silicone. It has been denied by several international independent studies but due to swift American lawyers there has stayed bad feeling in American surgeons and public because of several won cases. Saline implants are used here in 90% of cases. The rest is for silicone implants. Some older types of silicone implants that are in general not used neither in Europe have been even prohibited in the U.S. The fifth newest generation of silicone implants still expects to be approved by FDA (food and drug administration).
Silicone devices aimed to medical purposes must be tested according to the rule about care and health and must be marked with CE certificate (symbol of products that have fulfilled the norms of the European Union.)
